This is a long short story written to promote The Love Letter, set at a film premiere, which gave me a few of the characters for The Summer Wedding, most noticeable of which was Dougie Everett, a blue-blooded stunt man who is as brilliant in the saddle as he is in bed and who I really wanted to be an out-and-out baddie, but I just couldn’t help liking him too much. I needed to write someone capable of taking him on, so I played matchmaker and brought him back in The Country Escape.
